When a woman chooses to have breast augmentation it is often for very personal reasons. Dr. Daiza has performed seemingly countless breast augmentation procedures using both silicone and saline implants. Your Options for Breast Implants: Today, women have many choices, including different styles, shapes, and materials. Dr. Daiza’s patients also have the choice of silicone or saline implants. augmentation patients: • Transaxillary. This technique requires an under the arm incision which can reduce visible scarring. The breast implant is inserted via the armpit and usually placed under the chest wall muscles. • Periareolar: An incision is made around the outside of the nipple and the implant is placed appropriately. Silicone Breast Implants Many women prefer silicone implants as they are thought to look and feel more natural when compared to saline filled implants. As these types of implants are prefilled prior to surgery, they may require a larger incision to be made (when compared to incisions required using saline filled implants) as they cannot be folded and inserted through a smaller opening. Silicone breast implants are FDA-approved. Saline Breast Implants The outer casing of saline implants are actually made with silicone. They are however filled with sterile saline during the actual surgery. Often the incision required for saline implants is smaller.
